About

In the early 18th century, vest plates come into fashion. They were made from white leather and attached to a man's waistcoat or other garments to show his profession or rank in society. As part of a set of three or more, they were looped onto a chain that hung from a button on a gentleman's coat tail. Other examples were often used to display a boy's school details at the front of his cap. We stock a range of plain and fancy child-sized examples suitable for either purpose.

The handmade brass plates have an elegant, classic feel with a warm patina that fully reveals itself through time. The most popular series are our Simply Script plate script, which are script fonts of the most commonly used characters for Western language including English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and Dutch. For ease of engraving, our plates are offered in three shapes - circle (8"), square (8"), and rectangle (13") - with the letters arranged in two lines of 10 or 11 characters each (unless stated otherwise) on the circle and square shapes respectively.
